Music’s Monster Role in MMORPGs

In all the online games I have played over the years, music is one of the best aspects for mainly solo PvE players because there is no constant jabbering between team mates that often serves more as noise than music. PvP can also take away from the music experience because you are battling other players rather than simply enjoying the game world. I can start a quest and let the music lead the way to a great adventure. The music is a part of the experience just as much as the graphics and game play. Think of music as the heart and soul of a top MMORPG because it really is! The notes tend to soar above you as stroll through a town like Bree in the Lord of the Rings Online mainly because “Streets of Bree” is on the game’s soundtrack but also because LOTRO has a player driven music system where players can form bands and host concerts! How awesome is that? If you get tired of quests and blasting monsters, you can always stay in town and just enjoy the music. In fact, you can even pick...

Farewell to the GameOgre Forums: A New Chapter Begins on Discord

Image
Since 2006, the GameOgre.com Forums have been a home for all sorts of ogres! From MMO debates to having fun in chat and playing forum games, our community thrived in the classic forum format for many years. But as times change and gaming communities evolve with AI and Social Media, it’s time to say goodbye to one era and hello to another! The End of an Era The GameOgre Forums were more than just threads and posts. They were a meeting place where friendships formed, creativity thrived, and gaming history was made. Many of us remember late nights discussing MMOs, trading tips for buying games online, or competing in forum games. But with activity shifting to faster, more interactive platforms like Discord, forums everywhere have been in decline and GameOgre’s is unfortunately no exception. Why the Move to Discord? While forums had their charm, Discord offers real-time conversation, easier image and video sharing, and instant notifications. For a community that thrives on ...

You Won’t Believe These MMORPGs Are Still Alive in 2025!

GameOgre.com is not the only one that has surprisingly lasted all the way to 2025! Many MMORPGs have also defied the odds to exist in this current day and age. Unlike the early 2000s, today is all about Social Media and technologies like AI. Players generally want to do it all and they want to do it now! Thus, it is surprising to see that many of the games from our long gone Review Directory are still in business today! Some are fairly obvious since they were among the top MMORPGs back then as well. On the other hand, a few are quite a shock. Old MMORPGs Still Alive World of Warcraft – 2004 = The king of MMOs from the very start. RuneScape – 2001 = The Free MMORPG king that is alive and thriving with two versions now. Final Fantasy XI – 2002 = Still running despite the success of XIV. EverQuest – 1999 = The first really popular MMORPG. SWTOR – 2011 = One of the youngest, but also one of the deepest. Guild Wars – 2005 = Still here despite also ha...

The Future of MMORPGs?

MMORPGs have now been around for many years. In terms of function and feel, you can trace MMORPGs all the way back to MUDs . The graphics have constantly improved since the days of Ultima Online all the way up to now and games like Final Fantasy XIV and Black Desert Online. Elder Scrolls Online is another beautiful MMORPG that is miles ahead of the MMOs of the 1990s and early 2000s. However, how much better can games look from here? For game play, can this really improve that much from the past early MMORPGs and MUDs? The graphics were not that great in some of these games and they may not have hosted as near as many people that play today, but the depth of some of these old school games like the aforementioned Ultima Online was staggering! The small details of some of these games simply have a hard time to be matched today in MMORPGs. That said, what is the future of MMORPGs? From somebody who has been playing MMORPGs from the start, the future races to two very distinct possibi...

Best MMORPGs for Solo Ogres in 2025

Image
The one thing to remember about Ogres is that although they can function well in teams, Ogres can also do extremely well on their own! In fact, Lone Ogres can not only survive harsh conditions in games where the odds seem like they are stacked against them, but they can also thrive! Why is is this? Because Ogres often spend a great deal of their time alone so their experiences teach them to be self-reliant. Keep in mind that Ogres are not social butterflies! For this particular Ogre, it started all the way back with games like Diablo and the Realm Online . Those two games allowed you to play with others, but I was more at home starting an adventure by myself and then taking on all the monsters I could. Diablo was the best at this because I could find myself late at night sometimes hacking my way through scores of demons in a dark cavern somewhere. I was rewarded for these late night solo adventures with a plethora of loot that really helped build my character. The Realm Online was...

How to Buy a Clash of Clans Account?

Image
In Clash of Clans , progress takes time. A lot of time, and while building a village from scratch has its rewards, many players want to get straight to the action. They want to compete in high-stakes wars, use powerful troops, and join elite clans without waiting for years.  If this sounds like you, purchasing a pre-leveled account is the fastest way to achieve this goal. This isn’t about cheating the system; it’s about choosing a different starting point. It’s for the strategist who wants to test their skills in the Legend League immediately, the clan leader aiming to build a competitive team, or the returning player who wants to jump back into the game’s most exciting phase. These days, the online market for Clash of Clans accounts is bigger than ever, but navigating it successfully requires an innovative approach. But, no need to worry! This guide will show you exactly how to buy an account safely and get the best value for your money. How to Buy a Top-Tier Clash of ...

GameOgre.com’s Changes And The Top 10 MMORPGs in 2025!

Many years ago when GameOgre.com was first starting out, we compiled a list of the top MMORPGs of the day. Back then, these lists were dominated by the likes of RuneScape , EverQuest , Guild Wars , Adventure Quest , and then World of Warcraft ! These are games that also dominated our old Review Directory back in GameOgre’s early days. These game pages were very simple and collected many great reviews over the years. This directory also had a very wide array of online game categories including MMOFPS, MMORTS, MUDs, and PBBGs. A little after this, GameOgre started a forum in 2006. Unfortunately, we decided to link the Review Directory together with the Forum so everybody would have just one login and membership. This was fine for three or four years, but we ran into problems when we had to update the then VBulletin forum. That update broke the Review Directory as it has not functioned the same way since. This can be seen by the fact that the reviews stopped in 2010. Will that Directo...

Are Free-to-Play Games Still Worth Playing in 2025?

There was a time when free-to-play meant freedom. You could dive into a new world, explore its systems, and decide for yourself if it deserved your time, without opening your wallet. But somewhere along the way, the phrase started to lose its shine. The question now isn’t just whether a game is free, but whether it’s actually worth playing. In 2025, free-to-play gaming has split into two very different worlds. On one side, you’ve got genuinely solid games that offer full experiences, respect your time, and make spending optional. On the other, you’ve got pay-to-win mechanics, endless grinding, and battle passes that make you feel like you’re working a second job. The line between playing and paying has never been thinner. What’s tricky is how polished everything looks. Modern F2P games can look AAA-level on the surface with slick graphics, flashy trailers, and huge online communities. But behind the curtain, many are built around carefully engineered monetization loops. You lo...
